Founded in 1981, Gifted Education International (GEI) is a peer-reviewed journal that provides support, information and guidance on all aspects of 'gifted' education. It propagates a view of 'gifted' education that provides all learners with enrichment opportunities in order to discover their gifts, whilst at the same time acknowledging that manifest, varying individual needs require differentiated and extended curricula. A major focus is on the development of 'giftedness' across all aspects of human abilities, with an emphasis on creativity, problem-solving and self-efficacy.
The Editorial Board has always recognised the complexity of defining, identifying and nurturing 'gifted' behaviours and welcomes innovative articles that explore these themes.
GEI has been recognised as truly international since the broad policy of the Journal is to solicit articles from around the world in order to convey an informed awareness of the policies and practices of different countries. Articles should combine both theory and practice since the objective is to improve educational practice through informed psychometric and qualitative research and case studies of good practice. Another particular emphasis is on the identification and nurturing of potential giftedness in disadvantaged communities.

Gifted Education International aims to:
- Awaken and develop awareness of the particular needs of gifted children
- Disseminate information concerning relevant assessment procedures for the identification of gifted children with special emphasis on:
- Under-achieving pupils
- Pupils in multi-racial communities
- Pupils from deprived backgrounds
- Feature general activity in the development of curriculum extension materials providing reviews and information on the sources of such materials
- Report on examples of good practice in schools thereby encouraging the sharing of ideas and experience
- Reflect current national and international thinking with exchange of comment and views
- Provide teachers and parents with guidance and information on courses and activities both for themselves and their children
- A major emphasis is given to making provision for gifted children in schools. The approach is essentially a practical one dealing with problems relevant to teachers, parents and pupils.

There are no fees payable to submit or publish in this journal.

Before submitting your manuscript to Gifted Education International, please ensure you have read the Aims & Scope.
Gifted Education International publishes original research, review articles and case reports on the subject of gifted education and articles pertinent to the upliftment of education. Manuscripts can focus on any group of pupils ranging from Early Years to Tertiary.
Manuscripts should be between 1,000 and 6,000 words in length (including references) and we encourage authors to include photographs and examples of pupils' work, subject to appropriate permissions being secured (see section 8).
Many Book Reviews published in the journal are produced by the Senior Reviewer, John Senior. However, Gifted Education International does accept unsolicited reviews for consideration, and these will be subject to peer review, as with all submissions to the journal.

1.3.1 Make your article discoverable
When writing up your paper, think about how you can make it discoverable. The title, keywords and abstract are key to ensuring readers find your article through search engines such as Google. Gifted Education International operates a peer review policy to ensure that each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees. The reviewer may at their own discretion opt to reveal their name to the author in their review but our standard policy practice is for both identities to remain concealed. All manuscripts are reviewed as rapidly as possible.
All parties who have made a substantive contribution to the article should be listed as authors. Principal authorship, authorship order, and other publication credits should be based on the relative scientific or professional contributions of the individuals involved, regardless of their status. A student is usually listed as principal author on any multiple-authored publication that substantially derives from the student’s dissertation or thesis.
All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an Acknowledgements section. Examples of those who might be acknowledged include a person who provided purely technical help, or a department chair who provided only general support.
Any acknowledgements should appear first at the end of your article prior to your Declaration of Conflicting Interests (if applicable), any notes and your References.
Gifted Education International requires all authors to acknowledge their funding in a consistent fashion under a separate heading. Please visit the Funding Acknowledgements page on the SAGE Journal Author Gateway to confirm the format of the acknowledgment text in the event of funding, or state that: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

Gifted Education International and SAGE take issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism or other breaches of best practice in publication very seriously. We seek to protect the rights of our authors and we always investigate claims of plagiarism or misuse of published articles. Equally, we seek to protect the reputation of the journal against malpractice. Submitted articles may be checked with duplication-checking software. Where an article, for example, is found to have plagiarised other work or included third-party copyright material without permission or with insufficient acknowledgement, or where the authorship of the article is contested, we reserve the right to take action including, but not limited to: publishing an erratum or corrigendum (correction); retracting the article; taking up the matter with the head of department or dean of the author's institution and/or relevant academic bodies or societies; or taking appropriate legal action.
3.1.2 Prior publication
If material has been previously published it is not generally acceptable for publication in a SAGE journal. However, there are certain circumstances where previously published material can be considered for publication. Please refer to the guidance on the SAGE Author Gateway or if in doubt, contact the Editor at the address given below.
Before publication, SAGE requires the author as the rights holder to sign a Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement. SAGE’s Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement is an exclusive licence agreement which means that the author retains copyright in the work but grants SAGE the sole and exclusive right and licence to publish for the full legal term of copyright. Exceptions may exist where an assignment of copyright is required or preferred by a proprietor other than SAGE. In this case copyright in the work will be assigned from the author to the society. Your SAGE Production Editor will keep you informed as to your article’s progress throughout the production process. Proofs will be sent by PDF to the corresponding author and should be returned promptly.
