The 2012 Teachers' Standards in the Classroom

January 2013 | 112 pages | Learning Matters
All teachers and trainee teachers need to work towards and within the framework of the Teachers' Standards. This is the essential guide to the application of these standards in the classroom.

The text is written to support teachers and trainee teachers to interpret the standards effectively and independently, and to apply them to their teaching. The chapters mirror the standards themselves and practical guidance and classroom based examples help the reader link theory to practice. The text supports the reader to enhance their understanding of the standards and to see how their effective application can improve teaching and professional practice.

About the Achieving QTS series

All the books in this successful series support trainees through their initial teacher training and guide them in the acquisition of their subject knowledge, understanding and classroom practice. All new titles within the series are linked to the 2012 Teachers' Standards and consider the impact of key government initiatives.

A nice, simple guide which takes away some of the mystery about the Standards for trainee teachers. Written in an accessble style, it never leaves the reader puzzled.

Students on a level 6 teaching module of the undergraduate degree have also found this an absolutely valuable text as preparation for both practice and application for PGCE and schools direct programmes.

This is an essential text for those just getting to grips with the teaching standards, after the full review with the change of Government. This will support information and guidance given by PGCE course leaders and act as an essential companion when out in schools.

A useful text that is beneficial to trainee teachers. It helps them understand the concepts within the standards and the reflections are very useful - I have used them within my sessions.

At an anxious time for many engaged in ITE, this book provides a very clear platform for reviewing evidence for meeting the standards that is informative and not ticking boxes. It helps seed good professional habits and motivates practitioners to maintain a strong professional journal representative of their continuing development.

This book is brilliantly well structured and has already proved useful to current trainees. We have recommended it as essential reading to those recruited onto our course for next academic year, giving them valuable pre-entry study material.

Highly accessible text, providing clear helpful commentaries on the 2012 Teachers' Standards, with helpful reflective questions and examples. If anything, a bit slim on content, but that can be of great advantage to the busy teacher/ trainee. Will definitely recommend to my supervisees applying for PGCEs and my colleagues.
