Publish your Article Open Access in a SAGE Subscription Journal with SAGE Choice

Frequently asked questions

The SAGE Choice program offers authors the option to make their articles freely available upon publication in most subscription-based SAGE Journals. It also enables authors to comply with funding body requirements, where publishing research papers open access is a stipulation of funding, while still publishing their article in the subscription journal of their choice.
Most SAGE journals offer SAGE Choice. The standard article processing charge (APC) for SAGE Choice is 3,000 USD. The fee excludes any other potential author fees levied by some journals (such as color charges) as well as taxes where applicable.

Funding or discounted fees may be available through your institution or library and so we encourage you to check with your librarian or university contact.

Can your library help you publish open access?

Under this program, SAGE will post to PubMed Central (PMC) or its international equivalents, such as Europe PMC or PMCI, on behalf of authors where their funder requires it. All other SAGE policies regarding open access archiving remain unchanged.

SAGE Choice is only available to authors after their manuscripts have been accepted for publication. This is in order to prevent any potential conflicts of interest, and to ensure that authors' choice and/or funder requirements have no influence on the editorial peer review and decision-making process.

If your article has been accepted for publication in a subscription journal published by SAGE and you wish to publish under the SAGE Choice option, please email your request to
