Ferguson's book is a collection of articles published in various years by classical sociologists in the field of inequality (like D.Massey for migration and privelege, J.Lorber for gender and empowerment, and P.H.Collins for race and gender) as well as by people who study specific narrow issues within the field. The book is very well structured according to particular topics and has pretext and discussion questions for each article, putting it in a broader context, and making it easier for the lecturer to organize the seminar and discuss the problem. Growing interest in intersectionality is addressed abundantly in the book. The only thing that I really missed in the book was the issue of migration\refugees that is getting more and more acute in the European context nowadays and requires a more stable theoretical framework to be accessed.

A very thoughtful and important collection of readings for courses focusing on the sociology of race, class, and gender. The collection stands out compare to others in the market in that it balances well readings that address institutional inequalities and questions and issues related to identity construction and interaction. Moreover, the reader will be very useful for both beginning and more advanced students who want to understand the essential components of social inequality. One suggestion would be to include a section on public policies and social movements to address how society has responded to inequalities based on race, class, and gender.
