Qualitative Data Analysis with Atlas.ti is the very first book designed to guide you step-by-step through your research project using Atlas.ti. In the book, you will find clear, practical advice on preparing your data, setting up a new project in Atlas.ti, developing a coding system, asking questions, finding answers and preparing your results.

The book features:
- methodological as well as technical advice
- numerous practical exercises and examples
- screenshots showing you each stage of analysis
- a companion website (www.quarc.de/qualitative-data-analysis-with-atlasti) with online tutorials and data sets

Susanne Friese has over 15 years experience working with Atlas.ti and trains researchers all over Europe to use the software. Every student or researcher new to Atlas.ti needs this invaluable guide on their bookshelf!

Getting to Know ATLAS.ti

Data Preparation

Project Management: Project Set-Up for Single Users and Teams

Technical Aspects of Coding

Embarking on a Journey: Coding the Data Material

Further Steps in the Data Analysis Process

Working with Network Views

The Method of Computer-Assisted NCT Analysis

This provocative textbook and its useful companion website will open new and productive discussions on CAQDAS. What Susanne is calling computer-assisted NCT analysis is introduced here based in very illustrative examples. As a tour guide she is showing what enjoyable the research journey can be

As a user of Atlas.ti for 13 years I was very excited to read this text dedicated entirely to the conduct of research using Atlas.ti. A scholarly work imbued with theoretical perspectives in addition to the technical "know how". This is a superlative text set to become a qualitative data analysis seminal text. Written with great clarity the book will appeal to both the neophyte and experienced researcher

Susanne has always been central to most researchers' experience with ATLAS.ti . She wrote the official ATLAS.ti software manual and she helped establish our own software training programme at Surrey from the mid 1990's . Now she has written this wonderfully approachable and helpful book - no-one is more qualified to write about learning and using ATLAS.ti than Susanne Friese

As a seasoned qualitative researcher and avid user of Atlas.ti for more than 10 years, I found Susanne's text way over-due! It provides beginners with step-by-step instructions on how to use the software. More experienced users may find her insights on how to maximise the various tools and new offerings of Atlas.ti quite refreshing. Teachers will also benefit from the improved lay-out, to induct students into computer-assisted qualitative data analysis. A definite must-have for all doctoral students using qualitative methodology!

Senior Lecturer in Health Research Methods

I would like to express my gratitude for your great effort to bring CAQDAS, and Atlasti in particular, closer to myself and my students with your excellent publication "Qualitative Data Analysis with Atlas.ti", and the enormous volume of instructional and guiding materials, videos, powerpoint presentations, examples of interviews, audios. I have no place to even begin of how grateful I am as a researcher but also as a professor...A great thank you.

Qualitative Data Analysis with ATLAS.ti has been written by an author with strong practical experience in the use and teaching of ATLAS.ti, and this shows in the depth and practicality of her treatment of this data analysis software... Targeting both undergraduates and postgraduates, Friese has designed the book in a novice-to-expert manner in eight chapers... Overall this is a thorough, accessible guide to an important qualitative data analysis tool that has become more popular in recent years. It is well suited to an audience of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Not adopted for undergraduate research elective but excellent resource adopted as recommended reading for MPharm programme research students doing qualitative research.

The book has some very good strategies about qualitative data analysis, but is largely a how-to manual for using ATLAS.ti. I teach an introductory course on QDA for both master's and doctoral students, so I need something more general rather than focused in such detail on one software package. I would be more likely to assign chapters of this (have the library buy a few copies to put on reserve) than expect students to purchase the book. For an ATLAS.ti user (like myself), it's an excellent reference book. I would also recommend it to doctoral students using ATLAS.ti for their dissertation.
