The first issue of Antyajaa: Indian Journal of Women and Social Change was released in the presence of Prof Ruchira Gupta, Journal Editor, Antyajaa and Professor, New York University; Ms Juanita Kakoty, Associate Editor, Antyajaa; other dignitaries from the Editorial Board of the journal and representatives from SAGE at Oxford Bookstore, Connaught Place.
Introducing the journal, Prof Ruchira Gupta commented on the title Antyajaa, which means “The Last Girl”, and is derived from Indian languages and post-colonial, de-colonial sensibilities.
The journal is a first-of- its-kind initiative where activism will meet academics; and it aims to publish well-researched articles, interviews, oral histories and essays that draw forth the plight of the last female, who is weaker than even the weakest of men in varying socio-cultural contexts. It will capture women’s movements across the globe, the experience of intertwining inequalities and give voice to women leaders, survivors and victims’ transforming power.
