Practice Teaching and Learning in Healthcare is an essential textbook for anyone studying for the practice teacher qualification. Encouraging a critical understanding of the knowledge and competence required to fulfill the practice teacher role, the book examines and evaluates the concepts, theories, and frameworks underpinning the necessary skillset.

Structured largely around the Nursing and Midwifery Council's standards for practice teachers, the book provides comprehensive coverage of the knowledge and skills required to supervise and assess the learning of qualified healthcare practitioners such as those on post-qualifying specialist or advanced practice programs, and therefore includes:

  • Managing inter-professional relationships
  • Specialist and advanced practice and knowledge
  • Assessment and accountability
  • Leadership in facilitation of learning and assessment of clinical skills
  • Clinical practice development and evidence-based practice, and
  • Issues and further developments in learning beyond registration.

With think points, illustrations and case studies, this is an ideal textbook for healthcare professionals who are students on practice teaching courses, and all facilitators of learning beyond registration.

Myself and my coleagues would highly recommend this book for the MSC health care education course. It is relevant to both the course and our practice. The book is easy to read up to date with current strategic policy and
recommendations. Since receiving Gopee's books I am aware that several coleagues have purchased for their own reference.

This book fuflils a current gap in the market but is limited in its application to SCPHN who are the largest group undertaing Practice Teacher Awards

I would be happy to talk to you about a text which fulfils the above need

Very useful practice based book well laid out that will help the new practice teachers to differentiate their role from that of the mentor. The book will be on the book list for the module Effective learning in the Practice setting, so will also inform newly qualified teachers who work in practice.

Practice teachers study for specific modules when they are in their training year. They supervise students on the PgDip in SCPHN and Pg Dip in CSP and teach sessions on the programmes which are assessed. They also meet as a group of Practice Teachers and I will be recommending this to new and experienced Practice Teachers in Sept. It is useful to have a book that is specific to their role. It is easy to read and highly relevant to their role.
