Featuring chapter summaries, case studies, study questions, an expansive glossary and a date chart listing significant events, the book is easy to use and helps students to reflect upon key themes. It is essential reading for criminology, criminal justice and policing undergraduates.
This book is a clearly written account of the progress of policing in the United Kingdom, a welcome and unfettered approach to the subject
The Criminal Lawyer
Good for some of the law units, especially applying the law exam, as it has police powers on it.
Used this for Level 2 and 3 BTEC Law and Police Powers, it was very useful and clear.
Policing: Development and Contemporary Practice offers comprehensive coverage of key policing topics. It is easy to navigate and the chapters provide clear aims and objectives. The study questions at the end of each chapter provide students with a mechanism to review each chapter and consider what they have learned.
Excellent book for any students thinking of joining the Police Service. Informative and clear and concise
Peter Joyce writes very clearly and in a structured way which is a very good match for students delving into the area of policing for the first time. There are some areas where I thought references might have been very useful though. I like the way he has approached all the areas in a detailed yet concise manner. The small divisions into sub-topics makes the book quite handy as a reference for beginners.
Too expensive for supplementary reading
Any student new to criminology or policing will be able to develop their knowledge using this book. Joyce's style of written expression allows for an easy reading experience, without skimming on the details.
Joyce's contribution is essential for those wishing to understand policing in a contemporary setting.
an excellent text
