Organizing and Organizations integrates a strong critical approach throughout. It will continue to be an excellent support to students of management, organizational behavior, and the psychology and sociology of organizations.
"An excellent introductory text .... it provides a concise and well-written coverage of the main concepts in organizational behaviour. The combination of case studies and discussion of theoretical issues is well structured and provides the reader with a good framework for further reading." - Leadership and Organization Development
This text is anything but conventional and in being so it offers students and lecturers an opportunity to look at management and organisation theory in a totally different way to what 'normal' texts would offer. It is accessible to the novice as well as being informative about the world of organisations.
This is a fascinating insight into organisational life. It provides a comprehensive overview of life in an organisation. It has a very accessible style with many study aids. I particularly liked the integration of multiple theories. The stories and descriptions of organisations brought the whole text alive. This will be essential reading for students, and those working in areas of organisational behavior.
Good text. May be a possible alternative to the current text. I liked it for it's practical applications.
A thoughtful book - great for stimulating discussion in class; with some unexpected and largely ignored topics such as the impact and appropriateness of 'joking' and humour in the workplace.
This book provides a rich understanding of the complex world of organizations and the people that populate organizations. "Organizing & Organizations" not only presents classic themes to students but also introduces novel approaches and contemporary issues of modern organizations. A must read for students in social sciences, public administration and public management.
I will try this book in my new course on Organizing at the master level. It differs from others, and seems both fun and relevant - which we need in the area of organizations.
This will make a useful addition to the recommended reading for the International Management Programme, as several of our students will not have studied management previously at undergraduate level. Having access to a selected number of related journal articles is very useful too.
A very accessible introduction to organisational theory.
Would be useful for M level, but for Bsc professional practice it was too far removed from health and social care organisations that students work in, I found it difficult to use the material for this group, but will use it for the M level module re leadership.
