Journal of Educational Computing Research
The Journal of Educational Computing Research is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary scholarly journal that publishes the latest in research reports and critical analyses on educational computing for both theorists and practitioners. The Journal addresses four primary areas of research interests:
- The learning outcomes effects of educational computing applications, featuring findings from a variety of disciplinary perspectives which include the social, behavioral, physical, and computational sciences;
- The design, development, and effectiveness for learning, due to innovative computer hardware and software dedicated for use in educational learning environments;
- The interpretation and implications of research in educational learning computing fields;
- The theoretical and historical foundations of computer-based education.
The terms "education" and "computing" are viewed broadly. “Education” refers to the use of computer-based technologies at all levels of the formal education system, business and industry, home-schooling, lifelong learning, and unintentional learning environments. “Computing” refers to all forms of computer applications and innovations - both hardware and software. For example, this could range from mobile and ubiquitous computing to immersive 3D simulations and games to computing-enhanced virtual learning environments. Each issue features articles useful for practitioners and theorists alike.
This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The goal of this Journal is to provide an international scholarly publication forum for peer-reviewed interdisciplinary research into the applications, effects, and implications of computer-based education. The Journal features articles useful for practitioners and theorists alike.

Originality. Only original articles are considered for publication. Submission of a manuscript represents certification on the part of the author(s) that neither the article submitted nor a version of it has been published or is being considered for publication elsewhere. Peer review. Manuscripts are sent anonymously to reviewers for evaluation. Reviews can take up to eight weeks. Sage does not permit the use of author-suggested reviewers at any stage of the submission process. The Executive Editor makes the final decision on whether or not to publish a manuscript, the volume, issue, and order it will appear in the print issue.
Fees. There are no fees payable to submit or publish in this Journal.
General format. Prepare manuscripts according to The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition (2020). See: http://www.apastyle.org/ ; https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines; https://apastyle.apa.org/instructional-aids.
Headings format: Numbered sections are not allowed in APA 7 style. APA 7 headings should be: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/paper-format/headings.
Use Microsoft Word, Times New Roman 12-point font double-spaced throughout the body.
Abstracts of 100 to 200 words are required to introduce each article.
Manuscript length. Most published authors keep their submitted manuscripts no more than 10,000 total words, including references.
Footnotes are placed at the bottom of the page where they are referenced and are brief, single-spaced using 10-point font size. They should be numbered with superior Arabic numbers without parentheses or brackets.
Figures should be referenced in the text and appear in numerical sequence starting with Figure 1, placed where they will appear in the text, and contain descriptive titles. Refer to Chapter 7 in the APA 7th Manual for figure preparation.
Figures supplied in color will appear in color online regardless of whether these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version. For specifically requested color reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding the costs from Sage after receipt of your accepted manuscript.
Tables must be cited in the text and appear in numerical sequence starting with Table 1, placed where they will appear in the text, and contain descriptive titles. Any footnotes to tables are indicated by superior lower-case letters. Refer to chapter 7 in the APA 7th Manual for table preparation and the placing of Notes below tables.

The Main Document file is a Microsoft Word file that contains the Abstract along with the manuscript text. The Main Document file contains all of the figures and tables.
The Title Page file is a Microsoft Word document that contains the title, running head, author name(s) and complete contact information.
Supplementary files. During the submission process you will have an option to submit other files, if any, containing permissions that you may have gathered.
Prepare the Main Document for anonymous peer review.
Text: The Main Document text must not contain any personally identifiable information.
File Properties: All personal identification information must be removed from the Properties area of the Main Document file. In Microsoft Word: File/Info/Check for Issues/Inspect Document/Inspect. Comprehensive instructions are available via the Microsoft Word Help function. Enter “remove hidden data” into the Help field.
File name: The file name must not contain any of the authors’ names.
Manuscripts containing personally identifiable information in the file name, text, or in the file Properties area cannot be considered for publication.
Funding
This Journal requires all authors to acknowledge their funding within the appropriate section of the online submission form. Please visit Sage Funding Acknowledgements to confirm the format of the acknowledgment text in the event of funding, or state that: “This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”
Declaration of conflicting interests
