A good text for undergraduate HRM programmes as the text assumes no prior HRM knowledge. Therefore, it provides a solid foundation on which to build.
The practical approach of this textbook is very helpful. This makes illustration of theoretical constructs easier and more understandable for students. The language is very nice English which is important for me as I teach non-native speakers, so easy understanding is key for us.
This is a highly informative text in every respect, exploring all the fundamental aspects of human resource management. It covers a diverse range of topics, including organisational structures, external influences, legal issues and current trends and issues in human resource management.
I find this to be a good overview text which talks about some of the key theories in the reward management. Most HRM textbooks only have one chapter on reward management but this one has three - helpfully dividing the subject in the same way that I do on the module. It is nice to give students a break from our core textbook for a couple of weeks and suggest a different reading. I also supplement these chapters with journal papers.
The book is designed in a way which makes it very helpful and valuable for academic and training purposes. It could be used for civilian students as well as for military. The tests and the structure of the content make the book easy to understand. There are many ideas which can be easily adapted for the needs of various organizations.
A core benefit of this book is a practical approach to HRM issues. This makes the book a valuable HRM learning material. Real-life case studies and Skill Builder sections provide support to the readers in their skills development, such as communication skills, than can be implemented in real business situations. The comprehensive and structural approach to the presentation of the key CSR issues is supplemented by contemporary issues that link HRM with Sustainability and Social Responsibility issues.
