"Liked the good mix of practical advice and theoretical underpinning. Very up to date book by experts in this field" (Lecturer, Stranmills University College)
This introduces and explains how synthetic phonics can be used in a variety of settings in the classroom. Covers the topic in good detail and has some excellent examples.
This is an excellent text and has become our key text on our Cumbria Teacher of Reading module.
An excellent book, but proved to be too practical for learners who wanted more of an overview.
A comprehensive overview of research and policy around phonics. There is a balance of practical advice that will be invaluable to teachers, in particular trainees, and a sound theoretical underpinning. The chapter on assessing children's phonics skills provides good advice for moving learning on.
A useful book on phonics. We now have also purchased the ebook for the library.
A supprtive text for those student teachers exploring the teaching of SSP.
I belive that this book is out of print though.
Synthetic phonics is still a highly relevant topic for trainee teachers (unfortunately, some would argue). This volume is not the best written work on phonics available. It's style is rather hectoring and complex. But it is probably closest to the 'official' line and for that reason, we include it on our reading lists.
