A good overview of the issues surrounding effective communication. There is a practical activity approach to the book which is useful for student engagement in the subject. For example, there are chapters on breaking bad news and dealing with conflict. The chapters offer an over view of the subject and so are useful for providing the student with some key skills for working with people.

This book tackles a broad range of aspects surrounding communication across a broad range of professions. I feel that this is well suited to this broad and flexible course. The book covers more than is required for the course and so I feel would be ideal as recommended reading as it is accessible, with an engaging style, and encourages wider reading.
