This book is a wonderful teaching tool that gives an in-depth insight into principles and practice of conducting a discourse analysis. It will also be very useful for our dissertation students who are using discourse analysis in their research.
The data is more qualitative than quantitative. I was hoping to see the quantifying discourse data.
Useful if looking at analysing text covering subject areas such as intertextuality, and social theory.

Excellent explanation of how to undertake discourse research, simple explanations and easy to follow. Comprehensive explanations incorporating a range of data from different sources. Could be used so that student can develop good quality research and follow good practice, this book gives great insight into the world of discourse research
The focus of this book is concerned with the practicalities of analysing empirical data and the techniques used in discourse analysis. The main aim of this book is to illustrate how to do discourse analysis of people’s: dialogue in interviews, every day conversation and social interaction, as well as text in historical documents and records. This text consists of eight well laid out chapters comprising of examples of transcripts and codification schemes used in actual research projects.
This is an excellent book it is clear and concise and the chapters providing illustrative examples are varied and of high quality. The methodology however is too specialised for our general student needs.
An excellent text for those engaging in this discourse analysis
This book is a very good addition to the more general reading, and I believe that it will benefit students in understanding key aspects with regard to Discourse psychology, feminism and other topics addressed in the course.
