This is a practical book that encourages trainee counsellors and those in the helping professions to further develop and harness their personal and professional reflective capacity. Filled with clear explanations and tasks, the author guides the reader on their journey of self-discovery. The book also includes important topics such as Diversity and Difference to help identify unconscious bias. A further full chapter is dedicated to help tackle the stuckness associated with this as well as how to overcome general difficulties in the process of self-discovery.
The structure of this book is excellent, taking a student for preparing to write reflectively through different approaches and what to do with blocks. I really liked the chapter on Writing to Identify Prejudice, and used some of the approaches in lecture exploring unconscious bias. Highly recommended.
Reflective practice is a key part of the student's development.
