Multi-agency Working in the Early Years
Challenges and Opportunities
- Michael Gasper - Educational Consultant and Researcher
Administration & Leadership | Community & Family Issues | Early Childhood Education
What does working in partnership look like in practice?
Getting multi-agency working right is an exciting but challenging goal in early years care and education; this book suggests ways to draw together the different professional ideas, methods, and targets.
Enhancing the delivery of services to children, parents, and communities is essential if we are to address the detrimental effects of poverty and exclusion. Looking at the Birth to 8 age range, and drawing on interviews with Children's Centre leaders, the book considers:
- The benefits, and complexities, of multi-agency working
- What enables, and impedes, good practice
- Examples of successful multi-agency working
- Leadership and management in multi-agency settings
- What the 'new professionals' look like
Suitable for all early years practitioners working in, or organizing, multi-agency practice at any level, this book is also relevant to all those working in children's services and to students of early childhood.

Excellent coverage of the issues facing IAW in the early years.
This book was extremely useful for the assignment, promoting positive relationships. It contained the information needed to support the section of the assignment connected with multi agency working. It also enabled students to research areas of multi agency working that they have not experienced within the workplace.
excellent book well written for learners to understand
Students totally bought into this book. They have just finished their practical case conference and their reflective log. The majority of students cited this text.
Within this book I particularly liked the chapter on developments within partnership working and the reason for this is because it didn't just focus on England it looked at perspectives from around the world.
The reflective points are also very beneficial within this book as that allows you time to think about practice and put things identifed in the book in to perspective.
I really useful book giving clear reference to theory but also giving examples of practice. I am recommending this text book to all of my level 5 learners.
Interesting book suitable for higher ability learners. This would be suited to the cache level 3 courses not lower.
Essential book that 'tells it like it is'. Students have enjoyed engaging with the materials and have often reported the ease of understanding Gasper's writing. A must have for an Early Years or Early Childhood Studies student.
