Sage Journals content dates back to the mid-nineteenth century and may contain language and ideas that were once accepted by the scholarly community but are offensive or harmful. While recognizing the importance of preserving the historical record, we are addressing potentially harmful content in our archive on a case-by-case basis as we become aware of it. Actions we may take include adding a Publisher’s Note to alert readers of the nature of the content or, in cases where we determine the content is based on discredited science or has followed unethical practices, consulting with the journal editor to take the necessary corrective action.
We are members of the cross-publisher initiative taking action on inclusion and diversity in publishing and are committed to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion through our publishing.
