Do not include any identifying information (names, affiliations, etc.) in the Main Document; Title Page should be submitted as a separate document. The receipt of all manuscripts will be acknowledged by a return email. Authors should note than only original articles are accepted for publication. Submission of a manuscript represents certification on the part of the author(s) that neither the manuscript submitted nor an alternate version of it has been published or is being considered for publication elsewhere.

    COPYRIGHT AGREEMENT

Upon acceptance for review, authors must sign a Warranty and Transfer of Copyright Agreement before a manuscript is refereed. A copyright agreement is required by law (Public Law 94-553), which states that publishers must receive a signed copy for all obtained manuscripts. The publisher grants permission to the author(s) to use their articles in whole or part without further consent of the publisher. In re-use, state journal name (Journal of Drug Education: Substance Use Research and Prevention), volume, issue, and date of original publication. The use of this copywritten material by other than the author(s) is strictly prohibited without express written permission of the publisher.

    TITLE PAGE & AFFILIATION

The title page should include the complete title of the article, name(s) of author(s), respective degrees earned, academic or professional affiliations, and location. If the title contains 45 or more letters, include a condensed version for the right-hand running head. On the first page, denote any grant support or institutional funding with an asterisk. All other acknowledgements appear at the end of the articles preceding References.

    REFERENCE STYLE

The Journal of Drug Education: Substance Use Research and Prevention requires all manuscripts be formatted in the style of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition. The article’s reference list should include only those works cited in the manuscript.

    FOOTNOTES

Footnotes should be ordered consecutively and placed at the foot of the page where cited. They provide information or commentary that, though related to the subject under discussion, would interrupt the flow of the narrative or discussion. They should be brief, not exceeding four lines, and not contain any full references; reference items belong at the end of the manuscript. Footnotes are numbered with superior Arabic numbers and do not include parentheses or brackets. Table footnotes are indicated with lower case italic letters; an exception, probability (p), is indicated by an asterisk (*) within the table. Source footnotes appear on the first page of the article indicated by an asterisk and are limited to grants or funding from other institutions, as previously stated in the Title Page & Affiliation section. Other acknowledgements appear at the end of the article preceding References.

    DISPLAY MATERIALS

    Figures

All submitted line art figures must be original art in black ink on white paper and held to professional standards. Photographs should be black and white glossy prints with high contrast. Identify all figures on front with journal name, author name, figure name, and indicate the top of the figure (if necessary). Anticipate what your figures will look like on a 6” x 9” page. The maximum image area for vertical figures is 4-1/8” x 6-1/2” and 6-3/4” x 3-3/4” for horizontal figures. Callouts (figure labeling) are 8-point font size and this should be considered when art work must be reduced. Figures must be cited in text and numbered sequentially: “Figure 1.1” and “Figure 1a” are not acceptable. Computer-generated copies of less than 300 DPI are not acceptable.

    Tables

Tables must be cited in-text before the next primary head and appear in ascending numerical order. Indicate table placement in textual content. Keep in mind the image area size when planning tabular layouts, as anything larger will be reduced. Each table must have a descriptive title, an opening rule, a rule under the column heads, and a closing rule. No vertical rules. Do not abbreviate entries or column heads unless absolutely necessary. Table footnotes are indicated with lower case italic letters; an exception, probability (p), is indicated by an asterisk (*) within the table. Source appears as “Source: Name of Source.” Table titles are upper and lower case.

    SCHEDULING

After acknowledged acceptance of a manuscript by the Editor and receipt of the copyright warranty, the manuscript is sent for external review. Reviewers are asked to return their comments within 3 weeks. Accepted manuscripts are sent to Sage Publishing for production. Upon completion of the aforementioned phases, proofs are sent to the editorial board for careful proofreading. Your proof article is considered the final galley. You may not add any new material unless it is requested in the publisher proof or a newfound typographical error (typo). All changes and additions may be vetoed at the discretion of the Editor. It is mandatory that proofs be returned within 48 hours of receipt in order to maintain the journal schedule.
