Based on the popular Introduction to Social Research Methods, this book offers a highly accessible, clear and engaging introduction to research in education, which has been carefully and extensively developed to fully meet the needs of those studying in education and related fields.

Introduction to Research Methods in Education focuses on helping the reader develop a clear, logical, and conceptual understanding of the nature of empirical research in education, and of how those ideas lead to and underlie the principal research techniques. Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches are covered, along with practical guidance on issues such as how to prepare a research proposal, write a literature review, and analyze different types of data.

This book is an ideal introduction to researching in an educational context for students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and will be a must-have for anyone studying on a research methods course or doing a research project for themselves.

'[This book ] is well targeted, with the usual range of summaries, suggestions for further reading, study questions and exercises, and boxed examples. The chapters on quantitative research design, data collection and analysis are particularly well pitched for novice researchers, and I can certainly see how these chapters could be used in a teaching and learning context, with students new to, or with little confidence of quantitative approaches' -

A very useful reference text for our students on the Research Methodology Module of the Foundation Degree in Supporting Teaching and Learning. It is also proving highly beneficial for our students preparing for their dissertation on the BA Honours in Education and Professional Practice.

I requested this book to compare to Cohen et al.'s Research Methods in Education - while Punch's was very useful, essentially so for quantitative methods, I found that Cohen's was a slightly better fit for our course, where the focus is more on qualitative approaches.

This book provides an essential guide to research methods for the Special Educational Needs Coordinators on the National Award for SEN Co-ordination course who are undertaking individual practitioner enquiries. The book gives clear explanations and aids practitioners to select the most appropriate methods for their research.

I like the organization of the text. It focuses on the development of the proposal and does not get bogged down in statistics, which is not the focus of the course.

This is my second collection of the books written by Keith F Punch. The first one which I bought titled "Developing Effective Research Proposal" is a master piece. Since then, I felt in love with books written by Keith Punch. This books offers a clear and engaging concepts in research, which have been carefully selected and extensively developed to meet the needs of those studying research or doing research projects for themselves.
