"Generally, the book seems to be cover all expected points relevant to HRIS, it provides nice overview of HR history and various HR activities. At the same time, it branches away from traditional HRM approach by introducing decision science knowledge. I like that each chapter has similar structure and include practical case."

Gery Markova
Wichita State University - Wichita

"The organization of each chapter is intuitive and comprehensive. I especially liked and appreciated the “Editors note” at the beginning of each chapter.. as if they were in front of me explaining why the chapter is important."

Marc Miller
Polytechnic University – Brooklyn

"The chapter on international human resource management is excellent.  It is one of the best I have ever read."

Jan Rauk
University Of Idaho-Coeurd'Alene - Coeur D Alene

"I really like the practicality of the text and how it talks about real world problems and solutions."

Frank Mueller
Oakland City University-Oakland City - Oakland City

This is one of the only few of the textbooks in this specific topic. Kavanagh's HRIS provides comprehensive reference material for the students. There are good references from both IT and HR point of views. Students should already have basic HRM and MIS knowledge prior to dive into this HRIS textbook. The content of this textbook is heavy on academic/theoretical viewpoints thus, additional practical and up-to-date materials should be complementary added. There are a handful of American examples/cases in the book which may not suit for other countries (e.g. reference of 401k, etc). Included lecturer's resources are useful, but, PowerPoints may needs update for more consistency with the book.

As this is one of several topics covered in my module it really offers all the details of the topic that the students need for the class but also for the assessments. It poses several interesting questions that can be used for class debate.
