Ethics in Counseling and Therapy
Developing an Ethical Identity

April 2012 | 400 pages | SAGE Publications, Inc

The first of its kind, Ethics in Counseling and Therapy is not merely another text on ethical and legal issues in counseling. Where this book clearly differentiates itself is that it presents a framework for helping future counselors develop an ethical identity by laying a solid foundation of ethics from various complimentary fields (such as philosophy, sociology and political science). This text develops the counselor as a person, so they can make ethical decisions based on a solid foundation of theory, rather than memorizing and trying to follow loose ethical guidelines that are often changing. This in turn gives the counselor confidence to make decisions.

While book presents a solid framework for ethical development, it also does not lose sight of the current ethical guidelines presented by CACREP, as these are the guidelines that students must be familiar with in order to pass their licensure exams. Thus, Ethics in Counseling and Therapy applies the principles outlined for ethical development to various ethical issues laid out by CACREP. This text will providing a solid foundation and practical and relevant examples of ethical development and ethical issues in counseling.
