Personally, I think this book offers a good read for those students that are about to develop the research design of a qualitative study. The book provide clear guideline to design qualitative research.

This is an excellent introduction to designing a qualitative research study. It provides a very useful and clear introduction to qualitative research and how it may be combined with quantitative research. I particularly like the clarity of its chapters on sampling, research design and ethics which help demystify this approach for students who are new to qualitative study. The references for further reading are very useful, as is the glossary.

I think this is an interesting text to support other reading, I don't think i would recommend it as an essential 'first thing to read' source of information.

Flick's books on methods are always accessible and comprehensible. I recommend this as essential reading for intro to methods.

I have adopted this book as a required reading for my coursework Masters Students from 2014 onwards (I will recommend it for my current 2013 students). I will also be using it as a required reading for all my full Masters and PhD students, as well as ordering 2 copies for each of the 2 libraries on each of the campuses where our degree programmes run. I have also given samples to the other lecturers in our department who teach research methodology courses at both the undergrad and postgrad levels.
I appreciate the concise and specific focus of this book, and the qualitative research series it is part of. This book is user friendly and practical and so I think that the students will respond well to it. Due to the concise focus of each book on various aspects of qualitative research, the books are more affordable, applicable and relevant for coursework masters and honours students specifically. This book speaks directly to my students in terms of what they need to know and by providing practical guidelines for how to progress with their qualitative research.
There is most definitely a need for options such as these shorter and content-specific books for honours and coursework masters students as they are focusing on more specific approaches to research. These books also have value for students who have limited financial budgets and who also find the broader and more extensive research manuals to be confusing and largely inapplicable for their research needs.

I am highly recommending this book to all my EDS504 students this year.

I will also list it as a highly recommended book for my EDS504 students in future years.

The book is short and focused on qualitative research which is specifically beneficial to my course work masters students as they are only looking at qualitative research, and who don't need an extensive overview of all research methodologies or the theoretical backgrounds to qualitative research. The book is very practical and can be easily implemented by students.
