The text covers all the basic therapeutic models used in working with children, such as: Alderian therapy; play therapy; group therapy; brief therapy; cognitive-behavioral therapy,
and more. It also contains chapters that outline the context in which these services are received and special chapters on ethical and legal issues in schools, accountability in service delivery, and working with family and school personnel. The workbook works in conjunction with the text, chapter by chapter, and provides full length cases, application of each model to the case, full session transcripts, tip boxes, and critical thinking questions, and more.

"'Counseling Children and Adolescents in the Schools' is a much appreciated and long awaited text to prepare graduate students in the helping fields. I highly recommend it for publication and would look forward to using it as a guide for my future lectures."
"Without question this is the most exciting information that I have read toward equipping school counselors to serve children and adolescents."
"This text is a much needed, and well-considered introduction to school-based counseling for graduate students in school counseling and school psychology. The authors address the unique experiences of school-based helping professionals through a concise and coherent critique of counseling theories that are well suited for school-based practice."
"The examples (and transcripts) used throughout the (workbook) supplement are great! It is wonderful to see that the workbook focuses on school-based examples. Also, I loved that it focuses on counseling skills that school psychologists will use. This book is a “must read” for all school practitioners. It targets school counselors and school psychologists—two areas of specialization that you often do not find written about together! Also, the book offers a broad range of valuable information that will be used extensively in the schools."
"With the expanded role of school psychologists to be mental health service providers, a textbook geared toward graduate students developing counseling skills is essential."
I liked the other one slightly better.
Good fit for School Counselors.
I recommended this book to my students as it is one of the few books that specifically focuses on counselling in schools. I found the writing clear and accessible for undergraduate students.
Covers the material very well & ioncludes important info left out of other texts
Good overview text that can span two courses on our program. Accessible to the students, with practical ideas for real-life in school counselling.
